History of Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality

January 21, 2010, was turning point when the Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality was officially declared, replacing the name Greater Marble Hall Local Municipality by the Member of the Executive of Limpopo Local Government and Housing.

The local municipality with great and rich in cultural and historical heritage, Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality lies ideally in the Cultural Heartland of the Sekhukhune District, Limpopo Province, in South Africa. The municipality was named after a freedom gallant, a combatant for life and a patriot to the end, Ephraim Mogale.

Agricultural and Tourist Economic Hub

Marble deposits were discovered here in 1920 by Christoffel Visagie and family while on a hunting trip from Pretoria. Soon, The Marble Lime Company was developed to work the beautiful deposit in 1929. Marble Hall developed in 1942 and was originally known as Marmerhol, meaning Marble Hole. Yet, this name was soon changed during the Anglo-Boer War to Marble Hall.

These allow for farm tours and visits to be enjoyed by travellers. Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality is also well known for its outstanding game farms and fantastic facet is that it lies as the centre to the appealing Flag Boshielo Dam where numerous exciting water sports can be enjoyed by all.
